🌿 A Greener Chapter: Poplar Forest at Mercer Earns Bronze Certification

The transformation of West Club into Poplar Forest at Mercer brought a new name, a completely refreshed community, and a renewed vision for the future. Now, we’re proud to celebrate another milestone: the property has earned Bronze-level NGBS Green Certification from Home Innovation Research Labs.

This recognition adds another layer to a renovation already centered on creating more comfortable, efficient, and thoughtfully designed homes for the families who live here.

What Does Bronze Certification Mean?

NGBS Green Certification provides an independent assessment of how residential properties perform across several important areas of sustainable building and renovation.

Projects are evaluated in six key categories:

  • Site design, preparation, and development

  • Resource efficiency

  • Energy efficiency

  • Water efficiency

  • Indoor environmental quality

  • Operations, maintenance, and resident or owner education

Certification isn't based on appearance alone. A project must meet required building practices, achieve the necessary performance level, and undergo independent third-party verification before certification is issued.

Bronze is one of the recognized NGBS Green certification levels and demonstrates that Poplar Forest at Mercer has successfully met established standards for greener, higher-performing residential housing.

A Transformation with Purpose

The certification comes following the completion of an extensive property-wide renovation led by Poplar Development Group, which transformed the former West Club community from the inside out.

The 140-unit Macon community received significant improvements, including:

  • New roofs, windows, and doors

  • Updated HVAC systems and modern appliances

  • Renovated kitchens and bathrooms

  • New flooring, plumbing, and electrical systems

  • Accessibility improvements

  • Energy-efficient electric utilities

  • Updated exterior and site lighting

Together, these upgrades created a more modern resident experience while addressing many of the building systems that play an important role in long-term efficiency, comfort, and performance.

Beyond the Apartment Homes

The reinvestment at Poplar Forest at Mercer also extended throughout the shared community.

Residents now enjoy refreshed and expanded amenities including a community garden, picnic shelter, gazebo, upgraded fitness center, modern playground, clubhouse, pool, and improved outdoor gathering spaces.

The result is a community designed not simply to look different, but to live differently—offering families updated homes, inviting shared spaces, and improvements intended to serve the property well into the future.

From West Club to Poplar Forest at Mercer

There is something especially meaningful about seeing this recognition arrive at the end of such a significant transformation.

What began as an investment in preserving and improving a long-standing Macon community has resulted in a fully revitalized Poplar Forest at Mercer—and its Bronze NGBS Green Certification provides independent recognition of the sustainability and performance standards incorporated into that work.

At AGPM, we're proud of what this community has become and of the work led by Poplar Development Group to bring that vision to life.

A new name. A completely new look. And now, a new achievement worth celebrating.
